Raycom Sports is a production, distribution, and event management company with over 30 years of experience and a reputation of being one of the nation’s finest independent sports syndicators and producers. With deep roots in college football and basketball, Raycom Sports has also expanded its portfolio to include a vast array of sports opportunities on the local, regional and national level.
Raycom Sports has owned the television rights to Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Basketball since 1981 and ACC Football since 1984. Raycom, in 2012 entered into a sublicense arrangement with ESPN where Raycom continues through 2026-2027 to be the national syndicator of ACC football and basketball, holder of regional cable rights, administrator of the ACC Corporate Champions program and management of all ACC digital platforms including operation of theacc.com, the official conference web site.
Raycom Sports also produces and distributes the Emmy-award winning Football Saturdays in the South, an annual six-episode summer series that highlights the passion and tradition of college football in the region.
Raycom Sports offers a full line of production services including a High Definition KU uplink truck, four High Definition Edit Bays, as well as a fully equipped monitoring facility to view and record satellite programs. Two mobile production trucks, including a new state-of-the-art High Definition truck put into service August of 2011, are well maintained and staffed by experienced personnel providing everything needed for major productions. Raycom Sports is one of the Southeast’s most complete resources for advertising and television professionals.
Raycom Sports established the Belk Bowl, one of the most successful non-BCS bowls, featuring the ACC versus the Big East. The bowl game, played each year in Charlotte, NC, was ranked one of the most successful start-up sports ventures by the Sports Business Journal in 2003. Both the bowl game and the ACC Championship football game are owned by a non-profit entity, with Raycom involved in operational aspects of both games.
Raycom Sports is headed by Ken Haines and a veteran staff of over 50 employees, headquartered in Charlotte and employs hundreds of production personnel during the football and basketball seasons.
Raycom Sports’ parent company, Raycom Media, is located in Montgomery AL. Raycom Media has established itself as one of the nation’s largest broadcasters and currently owns and/or operates 48 television stations in 36 markets and 18 states that cover over 12.6 percent of the United States. Some of Raycom Media’s flagship TV stations include WOIO-CBS in Cleveland, WBTV-CBS in Charlotte, WXIX-FOX in Cincinnati, WFLX-FOX in West Palm Beach, WMC-NBC in Memphis, WAVE-NBC in Louisville, WWBT-NBC in Richmond, WIS-NBC in Columbia and WCSC-CBS in Charleston.
