Tourney Time!
March 11th, 2010
I can’t believe it has been 30 years since my Duke team won this championship in 1980. What great memories it brings back being here in Greensboro. I had the honor of playing in three straight Finals, winning twice( The other being ‘78 vs. Wake)It is now my honor to get to call [..]
G-Man Goes To Washington
February 26th, 2010
I wish I was in the land of cotton! – Well, not on a permanent basis, but I did have a great initial visit to Oxford, Mississippi for the Ole Miss/Florida game. The result was not good for Andy Kennedy and the home team as the loss probably ended their tournament dream. It was great [..]
BATTLE OF THE BLUES
February 11th, 2010
There was no question that there was incredible energy at the Smith Center last night. The crowd was as good as I’ve heard in a while, no doubt trying to help Carolina get a much needed victory. And it worked for 30 minutes. Duke then made a critical move necessitated by an injury [..]
ANOTHER WILD WEEK AHEAD IN THE ACC
February 3rd, 2010
ABC- Anything But Cavalier! What an incredible game up at Chapel Hill on Sunday. It was almost surreal! Due to the weather, many seats in the lower bowl were empty but quickly filled as the PA announcer invited folks down from the upper deck. The atmosphere was raucous but [..]
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus- Wow!
January 21, 2010
We are at the quarter pole and Virginia is undefeated and in 1st place in the ACC. Everyone who predicted that, raise your hand. Nobody in Charlottesville has their hand raised either! Great job by Tony Bennett and his staff- he has them playing hard-nosed defense and not [..]
Of Heels & Hoos & That Thing Called “D”
January 13, 2010
A look back- It was interesting to talk to Roy Williams on Sunday about his team. You could hear the frustration in his voice in post game press conferences when he discussed their performance. He told me his frustration comes from his squad making the same mistakes over [..]

Started a very busy week on Tuesday night up in Durham and watched the Blue Devils unleash a very impressive long range barage against The Beach of Long Beach St. Duke connected on 15-26 threes and admitted they missed a few more that were open looks. Duke has four [..]
December thoughts on the ACC
December 22th, 2009
It is nearly time to start the conference schedule in earnest and, as of now, Duke is playing the best basketball in the ACC. They have two quality neutral site wins over top 15 teams UConn and Gonzaga, both in Madison Square Garden. Nolan Smith has been a revelation, averaging [..]
A Look at Boston College
December 18th, 2009
No program flies more under the radar in their own media market than Boston College and that is just fine with Coach Al Skinner. Boston is a pro town and they expect success and Skinner has certainly provided that since his arrival at Chestnut Hill. He has led [..]
A Look at Clemson
December 18th, 2009
Could it be that Clemson is becoming a basketball school? If Oliver Purnell keeps up this pace, that may very well be the case. Consider- Clemson has won 72 games over the last three years, the highest total in school history. They have finished in the upper [..]
A Look at Duke
December 18th, 2009
It is a true testament to Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski the level of excellence that Duke plays to every year. Take note of last season- a 30-7 record, 11-5 in the ACC, a 17th ACC Tournament championship and another trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA [..]
