Boston College (3-1) at NC State (2-3)

Last year, Boston College's first after Tom O'Brien left for North Carolina State, the Eagles had to play their second game of the Jeff Jagodzinski Era against O'Brien's Wolfpack, who came to Chestnut Hill amid the hype of O'Brien's return.

This year, the Eagles got a little extra time before having to go up against their former head coach, getting to wait until Game Five to see him.

But this year, the game is in Raleigh and BC doesn't have Matt Ryan at quarterback, as Jagodzinski continues to look for someone to truly lead his offense.

Jeff Jagodzinski had to feel that his team grew up a little in its win over Central Florida.

The BC coach also had to feel his Eagles quieted some of the doubts that might have emerged after the Week Two loss at home to Georgia Tech.

As always, the big story at North Carolina State is injuries.

But this time around it may cause as many headaches for the Boston College coaching staff as it does the Wolfpack faithful.

Harrison Beck is atop the depth chart at quarterback. Russell Wilson is not on the two-deep. That fact doesn't mean, of course, that come Saturday, Wilson won't be the starter with Beck holding a clipboard.

KEEP AN EYE ON:

QB Chris Crane This is an ongoing thing as a fifth-year senior deals with the ups and downs of being a "rookie." Crane was terrible in the first half against UCF and then was able to lead his team to a victory after halftime, when he wasn't perfect but still got the job done.

LB Dwayne Maddox — OK, so Maddox's first career start wasn't one to remember, as he looked like the true freshman that he is when confronted with South Florida's spread offense. The good news is that Boston College doesn't have Matt Ryan any more, and Maddox will get another chance to prove he belongs on the field alongside the upperclassmen. Boston College will certainly give him that chance, as they will likely follow the USF approach and attack his side of the field early.

QB Harrison Beck — Beck already has started against the Eagles once, although it's a game he'd like to forget. When the teams met a year ago, he threw five interceptions and lost a fumble as the Wolfpack got blasted 37-17. It was performances like that that caused Beck to enter the offseason as an afterthought in the quarterback competition. If he wants to avoid a similar fate this year, he'll need to take much better care of the football if he's called upon to play this week.
