Virginia
Tech squares off against East Carolina University, September,
2008 at Bank of America Stadium. The date is not set yet,
and will be based on the availability of Bank of America
Stadium from the NFL schedule of the Carolina Panthers.
Ticket information will be announced at a later date.
This will be the sixth regular season college football game
brought to the city by Raycom Sports. Previously, North
Carolina and NC State, and East Carolina and NC State each
played a two-game series, and Clemson played Temple in 2006.
In addition, Raycom founded the Continental Tire Bowl, now
known as the Meineke Car Care Bowl, in Charlotte in 2002.
Virginia Tech will make their first visit to Charlotte for
football. The Hokies basketball team participated in the
1997 Harris Teeter Pepsi Challenge, a basketball tournament
operated by Raycom.
East Carolina University, now led by head coach Skip Holtz,
has played in Charlotte on three occasions. The Pirates
defeated NC State 50-29 in 1996 and beat West Virginia 23-20
in 1999, before losing to the Wolfpack last year, 52-14.
